It began with a single question:
"How can we grow coffee and cocoa that nourish both people and planet?"

Sustainability at Kudeungo Sugata

We believe every seed and bean tells stories, and Sugata listens. Our journey begins in Aceh,  with a barefoot walk through Indonesia’s volcanic highlands, where we saw firsthand how nature nurtures resilience.

At Sugata, sustainability is a journey rooted in the rich soils of Indonesia’s coffee and cocoa heartlands. As a producer of single-origin coffee and fermented cocoa beans, we are committed to building ethical, traceable, and regenerative supply chains that benefit farmers, consumers, and the planet.

We believe in a future where people thrive, nature flourishes, and profit fuels purpose. We invest in farming communities, regenerate ecosystems, and build ethical supply chains that create lasting value. Because doing good should also mean doing well.

We nurture the soil not just to grow crops, but to regenerate ecosystems.

Each bean we deliver carries the story of a farmer who chose organic methods over chemicals, of a community that planted shade trees to protect biodiversity, and of a supply chain built on trust and transparency.

Sustainability, to us, means honoring the land, uplifting the hands that cultivate it, and ensuring that every step forward leaves a lighter footprint behind.

What Sustainability Means to Us

At Sugata, our sustainability commitment is rooted in three interconnected pillars: empowering people through fair partnerships and inclusive training in Aceh’s farming communities; protecting the planet with regenerative agriculture and biodiversity-first practices; and building a purpose-driven business that creates lasting value across our supply chain—from seed to export.

Environmental Stewardship

We prioritize regenerative farming, soil health, and biodiversity. Our sourcing practices minimize deforestation and promote climate resilience.

Empowering Farmers

We work directly with local farmers, offering fair pricing, training, and long-term partnerships that uplift rural livelihoods.

We build ethical supply chains that uplift people, regenerate the planet, and create lasting shared value for business resilience

People, Planet, Profit

Environmental Impact

Our environmental story begins in agroforestry systems and regenerative farming landscapes:

Climate-Smart Agriculture
We promote shade-grown coffee and cocoa under agroforestry models that enrich soil, conserve water, and sequester carbon.

Emissions Reduction Initiatives
Through carbon baseline tracking and low-carbon farming, we reduce greenhouse gas emissions across our operations.

Biodiversity Protection
Operating near the Leuser Ecosystem, we protect critical habitats and promote biodiversity through sustainable land use.

Smallholder Empowerement

Sugata's cocoa farmer .JPG

Sustainability is about people. We work closely with smallholder farmers to build inclusive and resilient communities:

Smallholder Inclusion Programs
We provide agronomy coaching, business planning, and access to premium markets for over smallholder coffee and cocoa farmers.

Gender Equality & Community Engagement
Through Gender Action Learning System (GALS) training, we empower women in cocoa and coffee production.

Worker Welfare & Fair Labor Practices
We uphold ethical labor standards, ensuring fair wages, safe working conditions, and dignity for all workers.

Ethically Traded

We believe ethical trade is the foundation of resilient supply chains. At Sugata, we go beyond compliance to create systems that are fair, transparent, and regenerative:

Fair Pricing
We ensure farmers receive fair compensation and stable demand through long-term sourcing relationships.

Shared Value Creation
Our model distributes value across the supply chain—from producers to processors—strengthening economic resilience.

Regenerative Business Practices
We integrate environmental and social goals into our business strategy, ensuring that growth benefits both people and the planet.

Benefits for Buyers and Farmers

At Sugata, we believe the true value of cocoa and coffee supply chains emerges when both ends of the chain—buyers and producers—are equally empowered. Powered by KoltiTrace MIS from KOLTIVA, our traceability system goes beyond tracking beans. It is designed to strengthen livelihoods, enhance business resilience, and build trust across every link of the supply chain.

Benefits for Buyers

Imagine being able to trace every bean of cocoa or coffee back to the farmer who grew it, knowing that the product in your hands is not only of high quality but also compliant with the strictest global standards. With Sugata, this becomes reality. Buyers gain:

  • Assurance of Origin and Compliance: Every product carries a verified journey, meeting international regulations such as the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) and major sustainability certifications.

  • Reliable ESG Data: No more guesswork—our system provides concrete, auditable data on carbon footprints, farming practices, and social impact, supporting transparent ESG reporting.

  • Security and Quality: By building strong relationships with farmers, we minimize risks of supply disruptions and ensure consistency in quality—giving buyers confidence in every shipment.

  • Stronger Brand Trust: Verified sourcing stories empower companies to speak authentically to their consumers about sustainability, building lasting trust.

Benefits for Farmers

For farmers, traceability is more than technology, it is recognition, fairness, and opportunity. Sugata ensures that the hands that cultivate the land are never invisible. Producers experience:

  • Knowledge and Growth: Access to training, agronomic insights, and credit helps farmers improve their yields, adopt sustainable practices, and plan for the future.

  • Visibility in Global Markets: With verified profiles, farmers are no longer anonymous suppliers. They are acknowledged as partners whose work reaches roasters, chocolate makers, and consumers worldwide.

  • Fair and Direct Payments: Through KoltiPay, farmers are paid transparently and on time, reducing dependence on intermediaries and giving them financial security.

  • Inclusion, Not Exclusion: By making smallholders part of a transparent system, Sugata ensures they remain vital contributors to international trade rather than being left behind by new regulations.

״The true strength of Sugata’s traceability lies in the bridge it creates. Buyers receive reliable, sustainable products they can stand behind. Farmers gain recognition, support, and a fair share of value. Together, we build supply chains that are transparent, resilient, and inclusive—where every step, from seed to table, tells a story worth sharing.״

Traceability & Transparency

Traceability is the backbone of Kudeungo Sugata’s mission to deliver sustainable, high-quality cocoa and coffee. As part of our comprehensive sustainability strategy, we are committed to building complete transparency, accountability, and trust across our supply chains.

At the heart of this system is KoltiTrace, an advanced platform powered by KOLTIVA, enabling end-to-end traceability from seed to table. Through user-friendly dashboards, interactive maps, and tailored reporting tools, KoltiTrace streamlines processes for businesses and producers, ensuring efficient compliance with international standards such as EUDR and sustainability certifications.

Sugata’s story goes beyond technology; it begins with our Boots-on-the-Ground Producer Engagement (PE) team.

Equipped with the KoltiTrace MIS FarmXtension app, our agronomists and field agents map the supply chain directly with farmers, even in the most remote areas without internet connectivity.

Offline data, covering farmer profiles, household details, farm assessments, and geo-referenced maps, can later be synchronized, guaranteeing transparency and compliance at every step.

It also includes end-to-end traceability throughout transactions, processing, and post-harvest implementation, resulting in the delivery of superior fermented cocoa beans.

From Farm to Final Product :
How We Ensure Traceability

We combine advanced digital tools with local expertise to ensure every bean can be traced back to its origin:
